Engagement Party Dresses

Most wedding and party planners agree an engagement party is neither a mini-wedding nor a dress rehearsal for the big day. While it should be festive and fun, it should not compete with the main event to come. That doesn’t mean you can’t match your celebrations in style. For example, if you’re having a traditional wedding, it makes sense to plan a less formal but still classy and elegant engagement party.

Dressing for an engagement party is easy as long as you do a bit of research before the event. If it’s your engagement party, you get to set the rules and wear whatever you would like, but if you’re attending a friend or family member’s party, it’s important to dress appropriately for the event. If you know the couple well, you’ll probably have a good handle on what they’re expecting, but there are a few clues as to what appropriate attire will be.
If the engagement party is at a bar or casual restaurant, the couple is likely hoping for a relaxed celebration. If the party is at a posh venue, your attire should be more formal. Engagement parties at a couple’s apartment may be a bit more like a party depending on how they typically entertain, whereas if it’s at a parent’s home, it may be more of a formal gathering.

Once you have a clear idea on the venue, and dress code, it’s time to fine the perfect engagement party dress!! Be aware that this look should be a rehearsal of what you’re going to wear for the big day….don’t give too much away, keep it simple but stylish and make sure you dress to fit and accentuate your figure and body shape.
Pales and pastels are the norm for engagement party dresses, but stay away from white, that’s the brides colour palate. Keep on trend with bold, regal colours such as purples, blues and reds. Keep your dress simple and compatible with your body shape and add killer heels and statement jewellery to include touch glamour.

We love Narciso Rodriguez. He’s one of our top 10 favorite fashion designers. We love him for his clean, sophisticated lines and his emphatic minimalism. That’s why we’re so excited about his capsule collection, “Narciso Rodriguez for DesigNation” at Kohl’s. There’s a huge selection of amazing pieces and the prices are ridiculous. We found this gorgeous colorblock top for $21.60. Made of crepe and a poly/spandex blend, it has a crewneck, short sleeves, and a back button keyhole accent. True Religion has always been one of our go-to denim destinations, especially when the boot cut was the only style of jeans anyone would wear (1998?). Lately, they’ve been turning out some really interesting skinny styles, and we’re kind of obsessed with how almost, well, “out there” they are. They have a collection called “Glam Rock” and it’s just so nuts that it actually works. Take these ‘Purple Iridescent Halle Jeans‘ for example. They’re totally crazy. A super skinny legging jean coated with a purple, metallic, iridescent finish? Come on. They feature a high rise and of course their signature (and might we add very flattering) horse shoe logo back pockets (True Religion jeans make your butt look incredible. It’s all about those pockets. Anyway, these jeans are totally crazy, but they work for spring 2013 and we want them. First of all, spring 2013 is already totally insane. Patterns and prints are getting mixed all over the place, sequins and lace are getting thrown on all dresses, and monochromatic suits are a trend for God’s sake, so really, anything goes. We’d pair these with a chunky white fisherman sweater or a black silk tee and a graphic printed blazer. #lucky #trends
